The Communist Party was established in Chicago in by left-wing Socialist Party members who were inspired by the Bolshevik revolution. Through , their members seemed to do little else but disagree over internal questions facing their organizations. Between and , however, Chicago’s Communist Party experienced its first exponential growth in membership, tens of thousands.   Only percent of American non-agricultural workers are union members; nearly 49 percent of American union members— million of million—are government workers, as of data compiled at the Union Membership and Coverage Database.
